In this episode of Face Off, the remaining contestants must create a character that is able to function in total darkness. The challenge is inspired by creatures that have adapted to live in the deepest parts of the ocean, where no light can penetrate.
The artists must first research these deep-sea creatures in order to understand the unique adaptations they have developed. They must then translate these adaptations into a character design that not only functions in complete darkness, but also looks visually stunning under blacklight.
The artists are given plenty of creative freedom in this challenge, but they must also make sure that their characters have practical elements that make sense for surviving in the dark. They have to consider how their characters navigate, communicate, and hunt without the use of vision.
As usual, the artists encounter numerous obstacles in the creation process. Some struggle with the technical aspects of creating silicone prosthetics that will glow under black light, while others have trouble nailing down the overall design of their character. With only a few days to complete the challenge, tensions run high as the artists race to finish their creatures in time.
Once the creations are complete, the contestants must present them to the judges. Not only do the judges evaluate the designs themselves, but they also test each character in a blacklight environment to see how well they hold up. If a character doesn't look impressive under blacklight or doesn't function well in total darkness, it could mean the artist's elimination from the competition.
In the end, it all comes down to the judges' opinions on which character is the most successful in the competition's unique parameters. One artist will be named the winner, while another will be sent home in defeat. It's a challenge that tests each artist's ability to think outside the box and create something truly original, and fans won't want to miss a minute of the action.
