In the seventh episode of the eleventh season of Face Off, titled "Puppet Masters," the remaining five contestants face one of their most challenging tasks yet. In this episode, the artists are split into two teams, and are tasked with creating a puppet character that has a backstory and personality. Each puppet must be able to move and emote realistically, as well as interact with the judges in a performance on stage.
The first team works on creating a friendly, curious puppet with a backstory of being lost during a carnival. The artists in this team use a variety of materials, including foam, fabric, and wire, to bring the puppet to life. They work meticulously on the puppet's movements and gestures, ensuring that it is not only believable but also endearing.
Meanwhile, the second team takes on a much darker and challenging assignment: to create a creepy and unsettling puppet that has been abandoned by its master. The team members use different techniques, such as sculpting and painting, to bring their puppet to life, all the while trying to create a character that strikes fear into the audience.
As the teams progress, they face numerous problems - one artist struggles with creating a puppet that can move realistically, while another struggles with creating the right facial expressions. However, through trial and error, they overcome these obstacles and eventually present their final products for the judges' scrutiny.
On stage, the first team's puppet wows the audience with its adorable personality and lifelike movements. The puppet's backstory, combined with its friendly demeanor, receives high praise from the judges, who declare the team the winners of the challenge.
The second team's puppet, on the other hand, is met with mixed reactions. Some members of the audience are terrified by the puppet's realistic movements and haunting backstory. However, other judges feel that the puppet is too disturbing and fails to create a connection with the audience.
In the end, one artist is sent home, narrowing down the field to the final four contestants. With each passing episode, the competition grows more intense, and the remaining artists must bring their A-game if they hope to win the ultimate prize - the title of Face Off champion.
