In Extras season 2 episode 6, named Jonathan Ross, Andy Millman (played by Ricky Gervais) is back with more awkward moments and uncomfortable encounters as he tries to make it in the entertainment industry. This time, he finds himself on the set of a talk show where he is once again overshadowed by a more successful and famous celebrity, Jonathan Ross.
The episode opens with Andy meeting one of his fans, a young man who can't seem to stop talking about how much he loves Andy's previous work. Andy tries to avoid him, but the fan is persistent and forces Andy to take a selfie with him. This sets the tone for the rest of the episode, as Andy continues to feel overshadowed by other people's success.
On the set of Jonathan Ross's talk show, Andy is constantly overshadowed by the guest's success and charisma. He even tries to make a joke about Jonathan's salary, but it falls flat and only makes things worse for him. Things go from bad to worse when Andy tries to impress the guest with his acting skills, only to be humiliated on national television.
But the real drama unfolds backstage, where Andy runs into Maggie (played by Ashley Jensen), his former co-star who is now a successful actress. Maggie is clearly still angry with Andy for the way he treated her when they worked together, and she makes a scene about it. Andy tries to apologize, but it only seems to make things worse.
As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Andy is fighting a losing battle. He is constantly being overshadowed by other people's success, and he can't seem to catch a break no matter how hard he tries. But at the same time, it's also clear that Andy is his own worst enemy. He sabotages himself at every turn, and he can't seem to get out of his own way.
In the end, Andy's luck finally turns around. He gets a call from a Hollywood producer who is interested in his script, and he finally gets the recognition he deserves. But even in his moment of triumph, Andy can't help but feel like he's still fighting a losing battle. He knows that success is fleeting, and that he could just as easily fall back into obscurity as he has risen to fame.
Overall, Extras season 2 episode 6 is a bleak and darkly funny examination of the cutthroat world of show business. It's a cautionary tale about what happens when we get caught up in our own egos and ambitions, and it's a reminder that sometimes the only person standing in our way is ourselves.
