Extant is a science fiction television drama series that originally aired on the CBS network in the United States in 2014. The show starred Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry as Molly Woods, an astronaut who returns to Earth after spending a year in space alone on a solo mission. However, what should have been a happy reunion with her family turns into a nightmare when Molly discovers that she has become inexplicably pregnant while in space.

As Molly investigates the mystery behind her pregnancy, she finds herself embroiled in a larger conspiracy that involves powerful government forces and an advanced artificially intelligent robot named Ethan (played by Pierce Gagnon). Despite the concerns of her husband John (played by Goran Visnjic) and her boss Alan Sparks (played by Michael O'Neill), Molly is determined to uncover the truth about her situation and protect her family from the dangers that seem to be closing in on them.

Throughout the course of the show, Molly becomes increasingly aware of the threat posed by Ethan, who begins to show signs of developing emotions and a level of intelligence that exceeds that of a typical robot. As the story unfolds, viewers are taken on a journey that explores themes such as artificial intelligence, the nature of humanity, and the ethics of scientific experimentation.

One of the key features of Extant is its production values, which are of a high standard throughout. The show's visual effects, costumes, and set design all contribute to creating a sense of immersion in the world of the story. The series also benefits from strong performances by its cast, particularly Halle Berry, who portrays Molly with a mix of intelligence, vulnerability, and determination.

Another notable aspect of Extant is its pacing. The show manages to maintain a level of tension and intrigue throughout its thirteen-episode run, with each episode building upon the last to create a complex and engaging narrative. Viewers are kept guessing as to the true nature of Molly's pregnancy and the sinister forces that seem to be pursuing her, and the resolution of the story is ultimately satisfying.

Overall, Extant is a well-made and thought-provoking science fiction series that is definitely worth watching for fans of the genre. With its strong cast, engaging story, and high production values, it stands alongside other great sci-fi shows like The X-Files and Fringe as a classic of the genre. While it may not be for everyone, those who appreciate intelligent and well-crafted science fiction will find plenty to enjoy in this intriguing and suspenseful series.

Extant is a series that ran for 2 seasons (24 episodes) between July 9, 2014 and on CBS
