When we think of evil, we often picture monsters or villains in movies or TV shows. But what about the evil that lurks closer to home? Evil Lives Here explores the chilling stories of people who lived, loved, and trusted someone who turned out to be a monster.
In season 4, episode 5, entitled "Something Wasn't Right," we meet a woman named Maureen. From the outside, Maureen's childhood seemed idyllic. She grew up in a middle-class family in a tight-knit community, with two loving parents and two protective older brothers. But all was not as it seemed.
As Maureen recalls, there was always something off about her father. He was distant, cold, and prone to sudden outbursts of rage. Maureen's mother was often the target of his anger, and Maureen and her brothers learned to tread carefully around him. But even as a child, Maureen knew that something wasn't right.
As she grew older, Maureen tried to distance herself from her father. She moved away, got married, and started a family of her own. But her father's influence still lingered. He would call her incessantly, berating her for minor mistakes and demanding her attention. Maureen felt like she was walking on eggshells around him, never knowing what would set him off.
Then, one day, Maureen received a call from her mother. Her father had passed away unexpectedly, and Maureen was tasked with going through his belongings. As she sifted through his things, she stumbled upon a terrifying discovery. Her father had been keeping a secret, one that threatened to upend everything Maureen thought she knew about her family.
"Something Wasn't Right" takes viewers on a journey into Maureen's past, as she recounts the moments of fear, suspicion, and confusion that led to her father's shocking revelation. Along the way, we meet the people who knew her father best, including childhood friends, family members, and even a former priest who had suspicions of his own. Through their eyes, we see a man who was deeply troubled, haunted by personal demons that he could never fully escape.
As always, Evil Lives Here is a harrowing reminder of the darkness that lies within us all. It's an unnerving but ultimately empowering experience, one that encourages us to be vigilant, alert, and unafraid to speak out when we sense that something isn't right. Because sometimes, the greatest danger is hiding in plain sight.
