In season 10 episode 4 of Evil Lives Here, entitled "He Got Away With Murder," viewers are introduced to a man named Darryle Hunt. Hunt shares his story of growing up with a physically abusive father and a mother who suffered from mental illness. Despite the tumultuous upbringing, Hunt says that his childhood was relatively uneventful until his sister married a man named Michael.
Michael and Hunt did not get along well, but Hunt states that he did not think much of it at the time. However, one day Michael showed up at Hunt's workplace and asked for a ride home. During the car ride, Michael began to confide in Hunt, telling him that he had killed a woman in another state and buried her in his backyard. Hunt was horrified and did not know what to do.
Over the next several days, Hunt struggled with what to do with the information he had just received. He was worried about getting Michael in trouble, but he knew that he had to tell someone what he had heard. Eventually, Hunt went to the police and told them the story.
Despite Hunt's testimony, Michael was not immediately arrested. Instead, he was able to flee to another state where he remained free for several years. Hunt says that he never thought that Michael would actually get away with murder, but he did. It wasn't until years later, when DNA evidence linked Michael to the murder, that he was finally apprehended and brought to justice.
Now, years later, Hunt is left wondering what may have happened if he had not gone to the police. He says that he struggles with guilt and feels like he could have done more to prevent the murder from occurring. Despite this, Hunt says that he is glad that he did the right thing and turned in Michael.
As with many episodes of Evil Lives Here, "He Got Away With Murder" provides a chilling look at how someone can live a seemingly normal life while hiding dark secrets and tendencies. The episode is also a reminder of the importance of speaking up when something does not feel right, even if it may not be the easiest thing to do. Overall, it is a thought-provoking and haunting exploration of one man's experience with the evil that can exist in the world.
