Ray and Debra's daughter Ally is set to perform at a school function, and Ray is excited to see her sing in front of an audience. However, his excitement is quickly dampened when he learns that the only available seat at the event is next to Debra's ex-boyfriend, Brian. Brian is recently divorced and back in town, and Debra is thrilled to see him again. Despite Ray's protests, Debra insists that she and Brian are just friends and that there is nothing to worry about.
Throughout the episode, Ray becomes increasingly jealous of Brian's presence and starts to doubt Debra's assurances that there is nothing going on between them. He tries to compete with Brian by buying Ally a more impressive outfit for her performance and even goes so far as to suggest that Debra should have invited him to the event instead of Brian. Debra becomes frustrated with Ray's behavior and accuses him of not trusting her.
Meanwhile, Robert is trying to get back into the dating scene and asks Ray for advice. Ray suggests that he try online dating, but Robert is hesitant. He eventually decides to give it a shot and creates a profile. However, when he meets up with his first online match, he quickly realizes that online dating is not for him.
As Ally's performance approaches, Ray becomes more and more fixated on Brian's presence. When he sees Debra and Brian laughing together during Ally's performance, he becomes angry and storms out of the event. Debra chases after him and they have a heart-to-heart conversation about their trust issues. Debra admits that she still has some unresolved feelings for Brian, but reassures Ray that she loves him and is committed to their marriage. Ray apologizes for his behavior and they return to the event to watch the rest of Ally's performance together.
In the end, Robert decides that he is not ready to start dating again yet and deletes his online dating profile. Ray and Debra share a sweet moment as they watch Ally sing, and there is a sense that their relationship has grown stronger through the events of the episode.
