Ep 24. Let's Fix Robert

Everybody Loves Raymond season 5 episode 24, "Let's Fix Robert," follows the Barone family as they attempt to "fix" Robert, Ray's older brother who is going through a rough patch in life.

The episode begins with Robert crashing at Ray and Debra's house after losing his job and breaking up with his girlfriend. Ray and Debra are hesitant to take him in, as they know how difficult Robert can be to live with. However, they decide to give him a chance and allow him to stay until he gets back on his feet.

Soon, though, it becomes clear that Robert's problems run deeper than just a job loss and a breakup. He is moody, irritable and prone to outbursts, causing tension in the Barone household. Ray and Debra decide to enlist the help of their parents, Frank and Marie, to try and figure out what's really going on with Robert.

As the family tries to "fix" Robert, they begin to realize that their attempts may be making things worse. In their effort to help, they are actually alienating Robert and causing him to retreat even further into himself. Ray and Debra eventually come to the conclusion that the best thing they can do for Robert is to simply be there for him and offer their support, without trying to force him to change.

Throughout the episode, the family dynamic is explored in depth. Frank and Marie's meddling ways are on full display, as they try to micromanage every aspect of Robert's life. Ray and Debra's marriage is also touched upon, as they grapple with the added stress of having Robert living with them. And of course, Robert's complicated relationship with his family is a key focus of the episode.

"Let's Fix Robert" is a poignant, often humorous exploration of the ways in which families can both help and hinder one another. It highlights the importance of empathy and understanding in difficult times, and reminds viewers that sometimes, the best way to help someone is simply to be there for them.
