In Everybody Loves Raymond season 5 episode 20, titled Frank Paints the House, the Barone family and their close friends are preoccupied with the task of painting Frank and Marie's house. The episode begins with Frank showing off the colors he wants to paint his house, a bright orange and a Sunshine Yellow that horrifies everyone. Ray, his wife Debra, and his brother Robert are hesitant to paint the house those colors. Even when Frank added that he wants to paint the trim black with a game face to a silent scene, their reluctance remains.

Debra is horrified as she thinks he is going through a mid-life crisis, while Robert is amused by Frank's enthusiasm. Ray is somewhere in between; he couldn't care less about the color but voiced his concerns for the entire prospect. Despite this, the family and Robert agree to help Frank paint his house.

The men head to the hardware store to pick up paint and supplies. At the store, they run into some friends and decide to go play golf instead of painting. Meanwhile, the women are left to prepare everything for the painting. However, things do not go well as they begin to argue about the color selection. Debra and Marie disagree on the shade of orange to use, and the bickering continues to escalate as they refuse to compromise. Eventually, Debra has had enough and walks out, leaving Marie alone to deal with all the preparations.

Later, Ray and Robert make an excuse for going golfing and head back to Frank's house to finish the work. However, when they arrive, they realize that Marie has become overwhelmed by the project and has painted the house herself but ran out of paint leaving only half of the house painted while the rest is still white. Frank, who's been working on the Black trim, is disappointed and angry since the paint job that Marie did wasn't what he wanted.

To make things worse, when Ray attempts to paint, he accidentally spills a bucket of paint all over Frank's prized rose garden. Frank loses his temper and kicks everyone out of his house. The family leaves Frank alone to cool off, and everyone heads back to Ray's house.

The next day, the family and friends make an attempt to apologize to Frank and help him paint the house. They finally agree on a color they feel will work for Frank's taste. This time around, they hire a professional to do it as they realized they weren't competent enough to get the work done themselves, and in the boom of an eye, it was all done.

The episode ends with all of them admiring the newly painted house, and Frank being happy with the color. Frank also admits to liking the additional touches done to the house. He thanks everyone for their help, and the family has a good laugh about the whole ordeal.

In conclusion, Everybody Loves Raymond season 5 episode 20 was a humorous take on Frank's attempt to paint his house in garish colors, his temper tantrums when things did not go as planned, and the family coming together to undo the mistakes they had made. It was a joyful and happy episode, highlighting the importance of family and friends standing together.
