Ever After High is an enchanting animated web series produced by Mattel, and is an epic new spin on the classic fairytales that we've all grown up to love. The show follows the lives of the teenage children of famous fairytale characters like Snow White and Cinderella, and delves into the conflicts and challenges that arise as they try to stay true to their parents' stories or forge their own paths.
Season 1 episode 1, titled "Legacy Day: A Tale of Two Tales," sets the stage for this fascinating and whimsical world. It's Legacy Day at Ever After High, a momentous occasion when the students pledge their allegiance to their fairytale destinies and officially become the next generation of beloved characters. The pressure is on for these teenagers who are torn between following in their parents' footsteps and creating their own futures, and the effects of these decisions are sure to ripple throughout the rest of the series.
The episode begins with a cheerful and upbeat narrator, who is introducing us to the legacy ceremony as we follow some of the students on their journey to the main event. Apple White, the daughter of Snow White and the future "fairest of them all," is dutifully practicing her lines and preparing for her grand moment in the spotlight. She is confident that she will follow in her mother's footsteps flawlessly and become the perfect example for all of the future generations of fairytale characters.
Raven Queen, the daughter of the Evil Queen, is at a crossroads. Her mother's story has always been dark and sinister, but Raven dreams of a brighter future and longs to break free from the mold that has been cast for her. She fears that she will disappoint her mother, and the rest of her peers, by refusing to pledge allegiance to her "destined" role.
Romance is also stirring in the air, as Ashlynn Ella, the daughter of Cinderella, fawns over a handsome and dashing prince named Hunter. Although they come from different worlds, Ashlynn is hopeful that they can overcome their differences and find true love.
As the ceremony begins, tensions rise quickly. The students are separated into two groups, the "Royals" who embrace their destinies and the "Rebels" who want to find their own paths. Apple White steps forward to pledge her loyalty, but looks over and sees Raven Queen standing on the balcony, shrouded in mystery and uncertainty.
The tension continues to build as the Rebels refuse to sign the pledge book and take their places alongside their fairytale counterparts. The Royals are appalled by this behavior, as it goes against everything they've been taught to uphold. By the end of the ceremony, it is apparent that this revolt is only the beginning of a much larger conflict that will shake the foundations of Ever After High.
