Ren is excited about the school singing competition, where she hopes her class will take first prize. She is shocked when her eccentric music teacher, Miss Montclair, announces that the winner of the competition will get an audition with a top record producer in Hollywood. All the students are buzzing with excitement, but when they find out that the record producer is Lionel Kruger, a notoriously tough scorner of talent, they begin to have second thoughts.
Louis, Ren's younger brother, is set on becoming the winner of the competition. But when he discovers that Ren has the most beautiful voice in their family, he decides to try to sabotage her chances. He knows that Ren is nervous about singing on stage, so he plays a practical joke on her by lying to her that she will be replaced by another singer in the competition. Ren is crestfallen and too crestfallen to sing when the actual competition begins. Louis gleefully thinks that he has ruined Ren's chances of winning the competition.
Unexpectedly, the girl who is supposed to be Ren's replacement doesn't show up, so Ren has to perform after all. She is initially very nervous, but when she looks out at the audience and sees her family cheering her on, she gathers her courage and gives an incredible performance. She sings "Lean On Me" and brings the house down.
When the performances are over, Miss Montclair announces the winners. Unexpectedly, she declares a tie between Ren and Louis. Both siblings are over the moon with happiness. They agree to share the audition opportunity, even though they are wary of facing Lionel Kruger.
Louis and Ren's audition with Lionel Kruger does not go quite as they expected. Lionel initially dismisses them both as amateurish and untalented, but they tell him that they want to sing a song together. They perform a duet of "America the Beautiful" which is so astonishingly good that Lionel is forced to reconsider them. He admits he was wrong about them and offers them both a contract on the spot. Ren and Louis are ecstatic and relieved that their duet has earned them their dream of being signed to a recording label.
The episode ends with a celebratory dinner with Ren and Louis's family, with their dad Steve offering a heartfelt toast to their success.
