Humpty Dumpty is the seventh episode of the sixth season of ER. This episode revolved around the story of Dr. John Carter, Nurse Hathaway, and their patient who is a heart transplant recipient.

The episode started with Dr. Carter starting as the chief resident of ER and dealing with his new responsibilities as well as the new interns who had just started working under him. His day became even busier when the hospital received an organ donor and they needed to prepare for the surgery to perform an immediate transplant.

The episode then shifted focus to a patient named Mr. Crandall, a retired high school principal and a heart transplant recipient. He was suffering from postoperative hypotension and other issues related to his transplant surgery. Nurse Hathaway was taking care of him and Dr. Carter was on hand to assist her in managing his conditions.

Things were not going smoothly for Mr. Crandall. He was starting to slip away and his condition was getting worse. Dr. Carter was struggling to keep him stable, but Nurse Hathaway was worried that they needed to call the transplant surgeon for help.

While this was happening, the interns were trying to find a solution to their own problem. One of their patients, a woman who was on her fourth pregnancy, was experiencing some unusual symptoms. They discovered that she had an embryonic twin growing within her, which needed to be removed immediately.

As the doctors were dealing with these patients, they also had to manage the influx of other patients who were coming into the ER.

The tension in the episode continued to rise as Dr. Carter struggled to keep Mr. Crandall stable. Nurse Hathaway, who had developed a close relationship with Mr. Crandall, continued to advocate for him and to push for more aggressive treatment. However, Dr. Carter was hesitant to take any drastic measures, which only exacerbated the situation.

As Mr. Crandall's condition deteriorated, Nurse Hathaway became increasingly frustrated with Dr. Carter's lack of action. She called in a transplant surgeon to help, which further strained their relationship.

Throughout the episode, the medical staff was dealing with various other cases, but the focus remained on Mr. Crandall and the efforts to save his life. The tension continued to build until the dramatic conclusion of the episode.

Humpty Dumpty was a well-crafted episode that highlighted the struggles of doctors and nurses as they tried to save their patients' lives. The stakes were high, and the tension was palpable throughout the episode. The viewer could feel the pressure and the sense of urgency that the medical staff was experiencing as they worked to save Mr. Crandall.

The acting performances were excellent, particularly the performances of Noah Wyle and Julianna Margulies as Dr. Carter and Nurse Hathaway, respectively. The storyline was well written, and it kept the viewer engaged from beginning to end.

Overall, this was an excellent episode that showcased the strengths of the series ER, and it is definitely one that fans of medical dramas will not want to miss.
