Ep 1. Day for Knight

On the fifth season premiere of ER, titled "Day for Knight," the staff of County General Hospital faces another day of the intense and often emotional challenges that come with working in a high-pressure emergency department. His relationship with his wife, Jen (guest star Christina Pickles), is on the rocks, and he's struggling to balance his job with his family life. Against his better judgment, he confides in Dr. Elizabeth Corday (Alex Kingston), a new British transplant to the ER, about his problems at home.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), a talented but sometimes abrasive surgeon, is dealing with a serious medical issue of his own. He discovers that he may have a brain tumor, which could have a significant impact on his ability to continue working as a doctor.

As the day goes on, the staff of County General faces a number of challenging cases, including a patient with a deadly infection, a young girl with a serious heart condition, and a man who's been shot and is struggling to survive. Along the way, they must navigate the often chaotic and stressful environment of the ER, which includes dealing with difficult patients, juggling multiple cases at once, and working alongside nurses and other staff members who may have their own personal issues and conflicts.

Despite these challenges, the doctors and other healthcare professionals at County General remain dedicated to their work and to helping their patients. Throughout the episode, they demonstrate the kind of compassion, skill, and resilience that are necessary to succeed in such a demanding and fast-paced environment.
