Now What? is the first episode of season 10 of the medical drama ER. The episode kicks off with a high-intensity scene showing a tense surgical procedure in which the team of surgeons, including Dr. Elizabeth Corday (Alex Kingston), struggle to save a patient who is bleeding out on the operating table. Meanwhile, nurses Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) and Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney) work to stabilize other patients who have been brought into the emergency room. The opening of the episode sets the tone for the rest of this emotional and dramatic episode.

The episode is centered around the aftermath of the tragic events that occurred at the end of the previous season, including the devastating death of Lucy Knight (Kellie Martin), a young medical student. The episode picks up right where the previous season left off, with the ER staff reeling from the loss of their colleague and friend. The staff is struggling to process the event, and we get a glimpse into how each character is coping with the aftermath.

Abby, for example, is feeling particularly guilt-ridden as she was the last person to see Lucy alive. She struggles to come to terms with her feelings and finds it challenging to be around patients who are dealing with similar experiences. Carol, on the other hand, is taking it upon herself to support Lucy's grieving family. We see her offering comfort and care to Lucy's mother and brothers.

While the effects of Lucy's death are being felt throughout the episode, there are many other plotlines that are explored as well. For example, Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) is struggling to adjust to his new role as a resident, a demotion from his previous position as an attending physician. He is feeling undervalued and frustrated, which leads to confrontations with other members of the ER staff.

Elsewhere, Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) is dealing with his own personal issues, including his guilt over his role in Lucy's death. He is also juggling his responsibilities as a doctor and a new father who has recently welcomed his daughter into the world. We see him struggling to balance his personal and professional life, which leads to conflicts with both colleagues and family members.

The episode also introduces a new character, Dr. Rasgotra (Parminder Nagra), a new medical intern who quickly becomes a favorite among the ER staff. She is intelligent, capable, and eager to learn, which makes her a valuable addition to the team.

As the episode progresses, the staff of the ER is faced with many challenging cases, including a patient who has been severely burned in a house fire and a young boy who needs emergency surgery after being hit by a car. Each case is handled with the utmost care and skill, but there are moments of uncertainty and tension as the staff works tirelessly to save lives.

Now What? is a gripping and emotional episode that explores the aftermath of a tragedy. It's a testament to the strength of the ER staff, who must navigate their personal demons while continuing to provide life-saving care to their patients. The episode is a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from heartbreak to triumph, and it's a must-watch for any fan of the show. It's a reminder of why ER is considered one of the greatest shows in television history and sets the tone for a season that promises to be just as compelling and emotional as the previous ones.
