Empress Ki is a historical drama that aired from 2013 to 2014. The show stars Ha Ji-won as Ki Seung Nyang, a strong and determined woman who is sold to the Yuan dynasty as a slave. She initially works as a palace maid, but her wit and strength soon catch the attention of the Emperor of China, Ta Hwan (Ji Chang-wook). Other notable characters in the show include El Temur (Joo Jin-mo), a powerful chancellor of the empire who opposes the Emperor and his supporters; Yeon Chul (Jeon Gook-hwan), a corrupt official who is allied with Empress Dowager Tanashiri; and Wang Yu (Joo Jin-mo), a prince from Goryeo who becomes a rival to Ta Hwan for Ki Seung Nyang's affections.
