As they journey through the forest, they pick up different clues to find the carrot nose. They also meet different animals along the way, such as a family of field mice and a porcupine, before finally finding the squirrel who took the carrot. The squirrel tells them that he needed it to feed his family, but he gladly returns it to the friends once he sees how important the nose is to the snowman. They eventually found a better way to use the carrot - like sticking it into the dirt to grow more carrots.
