After successfully becoming the crowned princess of Avalor, Elena has her hands full with a lot of responsibilities. In the second episode of the first season of Elena of Avalor, titled "Model Sister," Isabel – her little sister, feels neglected as Elena is busy fulfilling her duties as the princess. Isabel wants to help Elena but is too young to join in the important matters. Elena then comes up with an idea to have Isabel model for a famous fashion designer.
Elena’s advisor, the Grand councilwoman, assigns Elena the task of selecting a donated food supply to distribute in the kingdom, but it is being overseen by Duke Cristobal. Elena’s little sister, Isabel, feels left out and wishes to help her big sister somehow. Elena tries to include Isabel in what she's doing, but the young princess still feels left out. Elena tells Isabel that she needs her, and that cheers up the little girl for a while.
The next morning, Elena takes Isabel to meet fashion designer, Doña Paloma. Isabel becomes fascinated by the work and the design, and asks if she can model her sister's dress. Doña Paloma agrees, and Isabel models the dress flawlessly. She is happy, and it makes up for the previous day’s sadness.
However, the excitement is short-lived as Isabel's success is overshadowed when Duke Cristobal is unhappy with the meals selected to distribute. Elena’s food choice, a popular Avalorian dish called arroz con pollo, didn't meet Cristobal's standards. He calls off the donations, leaving the people of Avalor with no food to eat. Elena is devastated and seeks council with her Grandmother, who tells Elena to follow her heart.
With this in mind, Elena decides to follow her heart. Elena and Isabel then take it upon themselves to gather the proper ingredients for a new dish, one that would appeal to Duke Cristobal. They decided upon a dish that would not only please Cristobal but would also appeal to the people of Avalor, a blended dish called arroz con pollo burrito.
At the event the following day, Elena, Isabel, and the chefs present the new dish to Duke Cristobal, who loves it, giving the green light for the donated meals to go forth. Elena is relieved, and Isabel is happy to have helped her big sister. In the end, Elena must make decisions related to her role as princess while also balancing her relationship with her youngest sister.
Overall, "Model Sister" is a delightful episode about the importance of family relationships, teamwork, and hard work. It teaches children the value of following their heart, the importance of family, and how to balance working on their passion and responsibilities. It’s a great TV show to watch for children and adults alike.
