Ed, Edd n' Eddy is an animated television show that follows the misadventures of three preteen boys who are constantly scheming to make money to buy jawbreakers, their favorite candy. The show takes place in a suburban cul-de-sac and centers around the trio's attempts to con their fellow neighborhood children. In season 2 episode 22, titled "Mirror, Mirror, on the Ed," the three friends stumble upon a magical mirror that causes them to switch personalities.
The episode begins with Ed taking a nap while Edd, also known as Double D, tries to teach Eddy how to use a yo-yo. After several failed attempts, Edd suggests that they take a break and go outside. Once they step outside, they come across a garage sale where they find a mysterious antique mirror. Edd, being the cautious one, warns the others that they shouldn't mess with it, but Eddy convinces them to buy it anyway.
Back at Eddy's house, they set up the mirror and start to play around with it. However, they soon realize that it's not an ordinary mirror when they see that their reflections are not normal. They soon discover that the mirror has the power to switch their personalities. Ed's reflection becomes Eddy, Eddy's reflection becomes Edd, and Edd's reflection becomes Ed.
At first, the three friends are excited to explore their new personalities, but soon find that they don't like being someone else. Ed discovers that being bossy and greedy like Eddy is not as fun as he thought it would be. Eddy, now in Double D's body, struggles to maintain his usual bravado and confidence, and Double D, in Ed's body, has difficulty adjusting to his friend's clumsy and simple-minded ways.
The trio quickly realizes that they need to switch back before things get even worse. They attempt to reverse the mirror's power by saying a magic phrase that they found in the antique store, but it doesn't work. They try several other methods, such as jumping up and down or rubbing their bellies, to no avail.
As they struggle to figure out how to switch back, they begin to see the consequences of their swapped personalities. Ed, now in Eddy's body, starts to act more like Eddy and takes advantage of their neighbors' willingness to do his bidding, something Eddy has been trying to do for years. Eddy, in Double D's body, begins to worry about trivial details, something that has always irritated Double D. Double D, now in Ed's body, struggles with his friend's limited intelligence and starts to feel trapped.
As the day goes on, the trio realizes that they may be stuck in these bodies forever. They try to make the best of their situation, but soon realize that they cannot live in each other's bodies forever. Desperately, they try one last tactic and stand in front of the mirror, hoping that it will reverse their personalities once and for all.
In a flash of light, they are finally switched back to their original bodies. Relieved, they stumble out of Eddy's house and vow to never mess with a magical mirror again. As they walk away, they realize that they have learned a valuable lesson: it's better to be themselves than to pretend to be someone else.
Overall, "Mirror, Mirror, on the Ed" is a fun and entertaining episode that explores the idea of switching personalities. It's a lighthearted look at what happens when three friends try to be someone they're not and ultimately learn the importance of being true to themselves.
