As he explores his surroundings and tries to find civilization, he encounters Devon and Yale, who are on a mission to gather plant samples for the colony's crops.
John is initially wary of them, having had a rough time since his escape pod crashed, but eventually they come to an understanding and he agrees to help them collect the samples. Along the way, he reveals that he was on an expedition with the first group of colonists, but was separated from them and ended up in the wrong escape pod.
As they continue their mission, they come across strange footprints in the sand and a metal box buried in the ground. The box contains a recording from the original leader of the colony, Dr. Heller, who reveals that there is a hidden cache of supplies that could save the colony from its current struggles. However, the cache is located in a dangerous area, and the team must decide whether or not to risk their lives to try and retrieve it.
Meanwhile, back at the colony, the Governor is struggling to maintain order and keep everyone fed. There are tensions between the colonists and the Edenists, a group of genetically-engineered humans who live in harmony with the planet and its flora and fauna. The Governor has to make some tough decisions about how to allocate resources and deal with the Edenists, who she sees as a threat to the colony's survival.
As the episode reaches its climax, John, Devon, and Yale set out to retrieve the cache of supplies, only to be ambushed by a group of mysterious armored figures. Back at the colony, tensions between the Governor and the Edenists reach boiling point, and a violent confrontation seems inevitable.
