Ep 2. First Contact (2)
- November 6, 1994
The show Earth 2 season 1 episode 2 is titled "First Contact (2)". The episode picks up where the previous one left off, with the arrival of extra-terrestrial beings on the newly colonized planet, G889. The colonists are still reeling from the initial shock of encountering the aliens, and tensions are high.
The episode opens with the colonists attempting to communicate with the aliens, using a variety of methods including gesture and facial expressions. However, their attempts are unsuccessful, and the aliens respond with aggression, firing energy beams at the humans. In the resulting chaos, several colonists are injured, and the group is forced to take shelter.
Meanwhile, the leader of the colonists, Devon Adair, is grappling with the sudden realization that they are not alone on this planet. She suspects that the corporation that funded the mission, Ulysses Corporation, had knowledge of the existence of the aliens all along, and did not disclose it to the colonists. Devon confronts Ulysses Corporation representative Morgan Martin, who denies any knowledge of the aliens, but Devon is not convinced.
As the situation with the aliens escalates, the colonists realize that they must find a way to communicate with them and avoid further conflict. They enlist the help of a linguistics expert, Yale, who has experience communicating with extraterrestrial beings. Yale works to decode the alien language and devise a way to communicate with them.
In a parallel storyline, two of the colonists, Danzinger and True, embark on a mission to find a new source of water. They discover an underground river and are able to bring much-needed resources back to the colony. However, their mission is complicated by the presence of a dangerous predator, a Terrian, which attacks them and kills one of their party.
Back at the colony, the situation with the aliens comes to a head. The colonists, armed with information gleaned from Yale's translations, are able to communicate with the aliens and finally establish some level of understanding. They learn that the aliens, known as Terrians, are the native inhabitants of the planet and view the colonists as invaders. However, they are willing to coexist peacefully with the humans, as long as their way of life is respected.
The episode ends on a hopeful note, as the colonists and the Terrians begin to build the foundation of a mutually beneficial relationship. However, the threat of the dangerous predators that inhabit the planet continues to loom, reminding the colonists that they are still in a harsh and unpredictable environment.
