Earth 2 is a science fiction television series that aired in 1994. The first episode of season one is called "First Contact (1)." The show takes place in the 22nd century, where humanity has polluted and destroyed Earth to the point where it is no longer viable for human habitation. A new planet called G889 has been discovered, and a colony is sent to be established there.

In "First Contact (1)," we are introduced to the main characters of the show. Devon Adair is a wealthy woman who suffers from a rare disease that makes her unable to walk. She is determined to lead the colony to G889 and find a cure for her condition. John Danziger is a rugged outdoorsman and the leader of the settlers' security team. Yale is the colony's physician who also serves as the chief medical officer. Morgan Martin is the computer expert, while Julia Heller is a scientist who specializes in flora and fauna.

The show begins with the colonists on their way to G889 on board a spaceship called the "Advance." Devon is in command of the mission as part of a deal she made with the government to fund the mission in exchange for leadership. Along with her son, Ulysses, they are joined by a team of specialists who will help establish the colony on G889.

As they approach the planet, they encounter a strange energy field that causes the Advance to crash-land on the planet's surface. The crash causes a lot of damage, including the loss of most of their technology, food, and supplies. The colonists must salvage what they can from the wreckage and begin to establish their new home on G889.

One of the challenges they face is that the planet's atmosphere is toxic to humans. They must adapt to the environment and find a way to breathe safely. They also encounter a native plant species that is incredibly hostile and attacks anyone who gets too close. Julia, the scientist, becomes fascinated with the flora and fauna of G889 and begins to explore the planet despite the dangers.

One day, while out exploring, Julia and Ulysses discover a strange object buried in the ground. After they dig it out, they realize that it is some sort of communication device. They bring it back to the colony, where they begin to study it. They soon realize that it is a beacon sent by an alien civilization, inviting them to make contact.

The colonists find themselves torn between their desire to make contact with the aliens and their fear of the unknown. They don't know what these aliens want or what kind of danger they might pose. Devon decides to send a team to investigate the location of the beacon while the rest of the settlers work on building their colony.

The team finds the alien ship and makes contact with a group of beings who appear to be the crew. They are able to communicate with the aliens using their universal translator device. The aliens appear friendly and curious, but they also warn the humans of a dangerous creature that lives on the planet.

The colonists are faced with a difficult decision. They must decide whether to trust the aliens and try to establish contact or to stay isolated and focus on building their new home on G889. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the settlers must deal with this new problem and decide how to move forward.

In conclusion, "First Contact (1)" sets up the premise for the Earth 2 series. It introduces us to the main characters and the challenges they face as they establish a new colony on a distant planet. It also raises questions about the unknown and the dangers of exploring new frontiers. The episode leaves us eager to see what will happen next and what kind of adventures the colonists will face on G889.
