In Dual Survival season 3 episode 4, titled "Into the Frying Pan," wilderness experts Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury find themselves in a scorching hot desert in southwest Texas. The episode begins with Dave and Cody dropping into a steep, rocky canyon with temperatures hitting a high of 110°F.
The challenge for the survivalists is to find water and food sources, make shelter, and stay cool in the extreme heat. Dave and Cody must use their instincts and survival skills to overcome the harsh desert environment.
Dave and Cody start by finding shade under a large boulder and discussing their plan of action. The lack of water sources is their first concern as they are both dehydrated and need to conserve their energy. The duo decides to search for water in a nearby creek bed and follow it downstream to see if it leads to a larger water source.
As they trek down the creek bed, they come across the skull of a wild boar. Dave points out that the boar would have fed on water, indicating that there may be water upstream. The pair stifles their thirst and continues to trudge on.
While following the creek bed, Cody spots a snake and uses his experience to safely handle it. Later, they come across a rattlesnake, and Dave promptly kills it with a rock. Dave and Cody cook the snake, but they say it tastes like "chicken-flavored Jell-O."
After traveling for hours, they finally reach a pool of water. However, the water is contaminated with cow excrement, so they must boil it to make it safe to drink. Using their survival skills, Dave, and Cody start a fire with a hand drill and boil the water safely.
As night falls, Dave and Cody search for a shelter to rest in. Cody scouts the area and finds a nearby cave, and they build a small fire inside to keep warm. Dave is skeptical about the risks of starting a fire inside the cave, but Cody assures him that the fire won't cause any negative consequences.
The following day, they continue their quest for food and water. They come across a herd of cows and decide to try and hunt them down. Dave uses a lasso to capture a young calf, but they ultimately release it, citing ethical concerns. They later build a trap using a dead cow as bait to catch a coyote for food.
As the episode progresses, the challenges escalate. Cody suffers from painful blisters on his feet, and Dave becomes increasingly frustrated with their lack of progress in finding a reliable water source. Despite their struggles, Dave and Cody never lose their cool and work together to overcome a hostile environment.
