In season 4 episode 1 of Drop Dead Diva titled "Welcome Back," viewers are reintroduced to the fabulous and always entertaining Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott) and her dazzling legal team as they tackle their new case. The episode begins with Jane's boss, Kim Kaswell (Kate Levering), interrupting a vacation with her fiancé, Owen French (Lex Medlin), with news that she needs Jane back in the office to help with a new client.
The client, a beautiful and famous model named Mandy, is suing her ex-boyfriend and fellow model, Duffy (Brandon Barash), for stealing her earnings and using it to support his failing career. In order to win, the team must prove that Duffy deceived Mandy into signing away her earnings and that he owes her millions of dollars in damages.
As Jane and her team start preparing for trial, a surprise visit from an old friend takes Jane by surprise. Grayson Kent (Jackson Hurst), Jane's former love interest who tragically died, has returned to earth in the body of a man named Ian Holt, thanks to the angel Fred (Ben Feldman). Jane is unsure how to handle seeing Grayson again and struggles with the feelings she still has for him.
As the trial begins, the team learns that Duffy is a cunning and manipulative person who will stop at nothing to win. Kim, still worried about the fate of her wedding, gets some unexpected news about her fiancé Owen, which causes her much distress.
Throughout the episode, viewers are taken on an emotional journey as Jane deals with her unresolved feelings for Grayson and Kim struggles to keep her relationship on track. At the same time, Jane is determined to win the case and get justice for Mandy.
In the end, the trial reaches a surprising conclusion that shocks everyone involved. Jane and Grayson have a heart-to-heart about their feelings for each other, but Jane ultimately decides to stick with Owen. Viewers are left excited to see what's in store for the rest of the season with the return of Grayson, the upcoming wedding of Kim and Owen, and the ever-dramatic legal battles of Jane and her team.
