In the second episode of Drop Dead Diva season 3, titled "False Alarm," Jane takes on a case of a woman who was falsely arrested for shoplifting. The woman, Debby, is a stay-at-home mom with no criminal record, but was caught on camera taking a bottle of perfume from a store without paying. She claims she just forgot to pay and was singled out by the store's security guard because of her appearance - she is overweight and wears glasses.
Jane and Grayson investigate the case and discover that the store's security camera only shows a blurry image of someone taking the perfume, and that the security guard has a history of targeting certain customers. They go to trial and Jane cross-examines the guard, revealing his bias and lack of evidence. Debby is found not guilty and Jane is satisfied with the outcome, but Debby's husband insists on suing the store for defamation.
Meanwhile, Grayson is dealing with his own personal issues. He is having nightmares about the car accident that killed his fiancee before she could tell him she was pregnant. He confides in Jane about his feelings of guilt and unresolved grief, but she tells him he needs to forgive himself and move on. Later, Grayson meets a woman named Vanessa who shares his love of music and helps him find closure.
Also in this episode, Fred is trying to find a new job after being fired from his position as Jane's assistant. He tries various odd jobs, including a dog-walking business and working as a gelato scooper, but is ultimately unsuccessful. He confides in Stacy about his insecurities and fear of being a failure, and she encourages him to keep trying.
Overall, "False Alarm" is a touching and emotional episode that deals with themes of bias, forgiveness, and self-worth. It showcases the strong relationship between Jane and Grayson, as well as the importance of friendship and support in overcoming personal struggles.
