In the first episode of season 3 of Drop Dead Diva, titled "Hit and Run," we find Jane and Grayson in the aftermath of the season 2 finale, where Grayson sees Jane's soul while she's in a coma. The two of them are struggling to work out their issues when Jane takes on a new case: a woman who was hit by a car and left for dead on the side of the road. The driver fled the scene, leaving the woman with significant injuries and a financial burden from her medical bills.
Meanwhile, Grayson is dealing with the fallout of his decision to leave the firm and start his own practice. He's struggling to find clients and make ends meet, even taking on a divorce case for a couple who clearly still love each other. On top of this, he's trying to navigate his complicated feelings for Jane, who he now knows has feelings for him as well.
As Jane investigates the hit and run case, she discovers that the driver may have been targeting the victim. The victim, who is a nurse at a local hospital, had reported a doctor for medical malpractice, and it seems likely that the doctor hired someone to silence her. But as Jane digs deeper, she uncovers a complicated web of lies and betrayal that threatens the victim's chances of getting justice.
Meanwhile, Grayson's efforts to win over new clients are complicated when he discovers that his first client, the divorcing couple, have been lying to him. They're not actually getting a divorce at all - they're just trying to scam their employers out of extra money by claiming to be single. Grayson is upset by this deception but ultimately tries to help them anyway, knowing that their relationship is still worth salvaging.
As the episode progresses, Jane and Grayson's relationship becomes more strained as they struggle to deal with their feelings for each other. But despite this tension, both of them ultimately come through for their clients, with Jane succeeding in getting justice for the hit and run victim and Grayson helping the divorcing couple work through their issues.
Overall, "Hit and Run" is a strong season opener that sets the stage for the various plotlines that will unfold over the course of season 3. It's a satisfying blend of legal drama and emotional depth, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers engaged.
