In the fourth episode of DreamWorks Dragons season 1, titled 'The Terrible Twos', Hiccup and his fellow dragon riders must deal with a new kind of problem. As the name suggests, the episode deals with the issues that arise when dragons hit their "terrible twos" - a period of adolescence where they become difficult to train and control.
Hiccup's dragon Toothless is no exception, and the episode begins with the rider realizing that his beloved pet is becoming harder and harder to manage. Toothless is not only disobedient, but he's also started to develop a bit of an attitude. Hiccup is used to having a close and loving relationship with Toothless, so he's not sure how to handle this new behavior.
As they are out training one day, Hiccup and Toothless come upon a group of dragons who are flying in formation - something that Hiccup knows Toothless is incapable of doing. Toothless makes a fool of himself in front of the other dragons, and Hiccup can feel his frustration building.
Meanwhile, the other dragon riders are dealing with their own dragons' teenage rebelliousness. Snotlout's dragon Hookfang is being particularly difficult, refusing to obey commands and causing chaos among the group. Fishlegs' dragon Meatlug is also acting out, and he's worried that she might be sick.
When all of the dragon riders come together to discuss their problems, they realize that all of their dragons have something in common: they are all going through their terrible twos at the same time. The riders decide to work together to figure out how to handle the situation, and they come up with a plan to teach the dragons a lesson.
The plan involves putting the dragons through a rigorous training regiment, forcing them to work together and develop their abilities. At first, the dragons are resistant but eventually they start to fall in line. The riders realize that by working together and staying consistent with their training, they can help their dragons through this difficult period.
By the end of the episode, Hiccup and Toothless have reconnected and are back to being the best of friends. The other dragon riders have also found success with their respective dragons, and the group is once again a cohesive unit.
'The Terrible Twos' is a fun and engaging episode that deals with a relatable issue that all pet owners face at some point. It's nice to see the dragon riders coming together to work through their problems, and the episode sends a positive message about the value of consistency and patience when it comes to training animals.
