In the second part of "The Wings of War," the seventh season's ninth episode of Dragons: Race to the Edge, Hiccup and his team are in the midst of a serious conflict with the Dragon Flyers. These new foes are adept at using a special type of armor that allows their dragons to fly at tremendous speeds. With the help of a new ally named Heather, however, the Dragon Riders may have found a way to turn the tide of this battle.
The Dragon Riders have been in pursuit of the Dragon Flyers for some time, but always seem to be at a disadvantage. These new foes, led by the ruthless Ryker, are well-equipped with specialized dragon armor that can only be described as cutting-edge technology. This armor has allowed them to fly faster and further than any of the Dragon Riders' dragons can, and they've used this advantage to stay ahead of Hiccup's team more than once.
In the previous episode, Heather, who had previously been part of the Dragon Riders before disappearing years ago, returned with a plan to help put an end to the Dragon Flyers once and for all. She had access to an ancient weapon that she believed could disable the Flyers' armor, but it would require getting in close range to do so.
In "The Wings of War, Pt. 2," we see the Dragon Riders put this plan into action. While Heather works to disable the Dragon Flyers' armor, Hiccup and the rest of the team hold off their dragons. This requires some serious aerial maneuvering, and we see the Dragon Riders really put their skills to the test. But with Heather's help, they're able to weaken the Flyers' dragons enough to take them down.
Of course, it's not all smooth sailing. The Dragon Flyers are a wily bunch, and they're not so easily defeated. Ryker proves to be an especially formidable foe, and even with the Dragon Riders working together, taking him down is no easy feat.
As with all Dragons episodes, there's plenty of heart, humor, and action packed into "The Wings of War, Pt. 2." We get to see the return of Heather on the good guys' side, which is a nice touch for longtime fans of the show. In addition, there's some good character development for Hiccup, who has to balance his desire to protect his friends with his need to defeat his enemies.
Overall, this episode (and this season) is a must-watch for anyone who loves Dragons and wants to see these beloved characters continue their adventures. The animation is top-notch, the writing is smart and engaging, and there are plenty of thrills to keep even the most jaded viewer on the edge of their seat. So if you're looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, give "The Wings of War, Pt. 2" a watch. You won't be disappointed!
