The investigation into the woman's death takes a twist when it's discovered that she recently had surgery to repair a hernia. She reviews the medical records and consults with the surgeon who performed the procedure to see if anything was missed that could have contributed to the woman's untimely demise.
As Dr. G continues to delve into the woman's medical history, she discovers that the patient suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, a lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe. This raises further questions about her death, as COPD could have played a role in her demise.
To get a better understanding of the woman's condition, Dr. G performs an autopsy. During the autopsy, she discovers a number of abnormalities that suggest that the woman may have had a condition called Cushing's syndrome, which is caused by an excess of cortisol in the body. This discovery leads Dr. G to explore the idea that the woman's death may have been the result of a medical error, possibly related to her Cushing's.
