Door Into Darkness is a horror anthology television series that first aired on Italian TV in 1973. It features six episodes directed by Dario Argento, who had already made a name for himself as a master of suspense and gore with his films "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage" and "Deep Red," among others.

The series takes its name from the fact that all the stories revolve around doors that lead to darkness, whether they are physical doors or metaphorical ones. Each episode is a self-contained story that explores a different aspect of fear and horror, from supernatural entities to psychological torment.

The first episode, "The Neighbour," tells the story of a man named Luigi (Enzo Cerusico) who moves to a new apartment building and becomes obsessed with the woman who lives next door. As he starts spying on her through a peephole in the wall, he discovers that she is hiding a terrible secret.

The second episode, "The Tram," follows a young couple (played by Robert Hoffmann and Rossella Falk) who take a ride on a peculiar tram that seems to take them back in time. But as they travel further into the past, they find themselves facing a grim fate.

In "The Doll," a young girl receives a mysterious doll as a gift from her father, who has been away on business for a long time. But as she plays with the doll, strange things begin to happen, and she realizes that the toy is not what it seems.

"The Room" is the fourth episode, and it takes place in an old hotel where a man (played by Argento himself) checks into a room that has been sealed off for decades. Inside, he finds a diary that tells the story of a woman who was killed in the room many years ago. As he reads the diary, he begins to experience strange events that suggest the woman's ghost is still haunting the place.

In "The Black Cat," a writer (played by Renato Malavasi) becomes obsessed with a stray cat that starts following him everywhere he goes. The cat seems to have a sinister influence on the writer's mind, and as he becomes more and more unhinged, he starts to see the feline as his own doppelganger.

The final episode, "The Photograph," tells the story of a couple (played by Vittorio Mezzogiorno and Lella Costa) who find a photograph of a young girl in an antique shop. But as they try to uncover the identity of the girl, they discover a dark secret that threatens to destroy their relationship.

Overall, Door Into Darkness is a chilling and suspenseful series that showcases Argento's talent for creating unsettling atmospheres and shocking twists. The episodes are all filmed with a distinct visual style that uses bold colors, sharp angles, and elaborate camera movements to enhance the sense of unease. The performances by the actors are also top-notch, with Cerusico, Hoffmann, and Falk being particularly memorable in their roles.

While some of the episodes may be more effective than others, Door Into Darkness is a must-see for horror fans who appreciate masterful storytelling and imaginative visuals. Each episode is a journey into the unknown, and viewers will be left with a lingering sense of dread long after the screen goes dark.
