Joey's addiction is much more severe than he had anticipated, and he needs specialized help beyond what Doogie can provide. Doogie vouches for Joey at a rehabilitation center, but his insurance does not cover the cost.

Meanwhile, Vinnie learns that the money he lent Joey was not enough to completely pay off his debt to the bookie. The bookie demands more money, and Vinnie risks losing his life if he does not pay up. Doogie and Vinnie decide to team up and go to the bookie's office to resolve the situation. However, this results in another dangerous confrontation, and Doogie is faced with life-threatening injuries.
