In the first episode of Doc Martin season 3, entitled "Tick Tock," life in Portwenn slowly returns to normal after the tumultuous events of the previous season. The village is preparing for its annual Fun Day, but Doc Martin (played by Martin Clunes) is more concerned about his upcoming hearing in front of the General Medical Council. This is due to his recent suspension of his medical practice, which he has to defend himself for.
As the day of the hearing approaches, Doc Martin becomes increasingly anxious and fails to provide much-needed medical assistance when it is required. However, this doesn't stop him from noticing that people in the village have started to experience unusual symptoms, including an alarmingly high heart rate.
As the village doctor, Doc Martin is tasked with investigating the strange affliction that has befallen the residents of Portwenn. With the help of his partner Louisa (played by Caroline Catz), he discovers that the problem is related to a high level of caffeine being pumped into the local water supply. As the tension mounts, Doc Martin tries to find out who is responsible for this grievous error, and whether or not it was intentional.
The episode continues to explore the ever-evolving relationship between Doc Martin and Louisa. Their conflicting personalities often lead to arguments and misunderstandings, which only increases the tension between them.
Meanwhile, other characters in the show are going through their own struggles. Bert Large (played by Ian McNeice) is trying to get his new restaurant up and running, while his son Al desperately tries to find work. Mrs. Tishell (played by Selina Cadell) is still pining for Doc Martin, which makes Louisa extremely jealous.
Of course, this wouldn't be a Doc Martin episode without some comedic moments. The villagers prepare for the Fun Day, but things soon start to go wrong. The events that take place are filled with slapstick humor and quick wit, which keep the audience entertained.
Overall, "Tick Tock" is a perfect example of what makes Doc Martin such a beloved show. The combination of drama, humor, and heart keeps fans engaged and coming back for more.
