Disney Fam Jam is a new competition show that celebrates families who love to dance. It premiered on the Disney Channel on February 23, 2020, and the first episode is called "Lee & Jacobs."
In this episode, two families compete in a series of dance challenges to see who will be crowned the ultimate Fam Jam champions. The first family is the Lee family, who are from Seattle, Washington. They are a tight-knit group of four: mom Kanae, dad Ken, and their two daughters Kaylee and Keira.
The Lee family is known for their slick hip-hop moves, and they've been dancing together for years. Kanae is the choreographer in the family, and she's always coming up with new routines for them to practice. Ken is a busy tech executive, but he makes time for dance because he knows how important it is to his family. Kaylee is 14 years old and a natural performer. She loves to dance, sing, and act, and hopes to one day star on Broadway. Keira is 10 years old and a fierce competitor. She's never afraid to take on a challenge, and is always pushing her family to be better.
The second family is the Jacobs family, who are from Aurora, Colorado. They are a family of five: mom Tania, dad James, and their three children Jaidyn, Jordan, and Jaxon.
The Jacobs family is known for their high-energy performances and their love of all types of dance. Tania is a dance teacher, and she's passed on her love of dance to her children. James is a software engineer, but he's also a skilled dancer who enjoys performing with his family. Jaidyn is 15 years old and the oldest sibling. She's been dancing for as long as she can remember, and hopes to eventually dance professionally. Jordan is 12 years old and loves to dance and play basketball. He's always up for trying new things, and is the family's clown. Jaxon is 7 years old and the youngest sibling. He's a natural performer and always steals the show with his cute dance moves.
The Lee and Jacobs families are introduced at the beginning of the episode, and we get to see some of their rehearsal process as they prepare for the challenges ahead. The first challenge is called "Blast Off," and it involves the families dancing to a surprise song that they've never heard before. They have just a few minutes to come up with a routine on the spot, and then perform it in front of a panel of judges.
The Lee family goes first, and they do a hip-hop routine to a song by Ariana Grande. Their choreography is impressive, and the judges are impressed by their synchronization and energy. The Jacobs family is up next, and they're given a country song to dance to. They quickly come up with a routine that blends line dancing with modern dance moves. Their performance is fun and lighthearted, and the judges appreciate their creativity.
The next challenge is called "Syncopated Steps," and it's a battle-style dance-off. The families are given a specific style of dance and have to come up with a routine that showcases that style. They then perform their routines side-by-side, and the judges choose which family did it better.
The Lee family is given a salsa routine, and they pull it off with style. Their footwork is impressive, and they manage to incorporate some hip-hop moves into their routine as well. The Jacobs family is given a tap routine, which is right up their alley. They've been tap dancing for years, and their routine is full of intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms. The judges have a tough time deciding which family did it better, but ultimately give the win to the Jacobs family.
The final challenge is called "Fam Jam Freestyle," and it's a chance for the families to show off their own unique style of dance. They're given three minutes to showcase their skills, and they can incorporate any type of dance they want.
The Lee family goes first, and their routine is full of high-energy hip-hop moves and acrobatics. They're clearly having a great time on stage, and the judges love their enthusiasm. The Jacobs family is up next, and they start off with a lyrical routine that shows off their emotional range. They then transition into a high-energy hip-hop routine that has the crowd cheering. The judges are impressed by their versatility and stage presence.
After all the challenges are finished, the judges deliberate and decide which family will be crowned the Fam Jam champions. The winning family is announced, and they're thrilled to receive the trophy and bragging rights. Both families hug and congratulate each other, showing that ultimately, the show is about celebrating family and the joy of dance.
