In this episode of Dirt Every Day season 4, titled "Mad Maxxis Off-Road Runner," host Fred Williams takes on the challenge of turning a run-of-the-mill 1979 Jeep Cherokee into a beastly off-road machine inspired by the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max.
The first step in this transformation involves swapping out the Jeep's front suspension for a four-link system and adding coilovers. The rear suspension is also upgraded with a six-inch lift and leaf springs. Williams then adds a set of 37-inch Maxxis Trepador tires and ditches the Jeep's original wheels in favor of custom-built beadlock rims.
Next up is the engine. Williams decides to go with a 6.2-liter V8 diesel engine from a 1986 Chevy CUCV military truck. To accommodate the larger engine, he has to modify the engine bay and install a custom motor mount. A new transmission and transfer case are also added.
To complete the Mad Max-inspired look, Williams adds a custom front bumper with a winch and a brush guard. He also installs a roof rack, complete with a jerry can holder and a spare tire mount. The Jeep's exterior is finished off with a matte black paint job and customized decals.
With the off-road runner complete, it's time to put it to the test. Williams takes it through a range of obstacles, including rock crawling and deep mud pits. The Mad Maxxis Off-Road Runner proves to be a formidable machine, handling everything thrown at it with ease.
Overall, this episode is a must-see for fans of modified off-road vehicles and the Mad Max franchise. Williams' ability to transform a 1979 Jeep Cherokee into a post-apocalyptic warrior is nothing short of impressive, and the off-road action is sure to get your heart racing.
