In the fourth episode of Dinosaur Train season 1, titled "I'm a T. Rex! / Ned The Quadruped," Buddy and his siblings, Tiny, Shiny, and Don, are excited to learn more about the different types of dinosaurs. They are especially fascinated by the Tyrannosaurus Rex, or T. Rex, and their abilities as top predators.
In the first half of the episode, "I'm a T. Rex!," Buddy meets a juvenile T. Rex named Terry, who has just learned to hunt by himself. Terry boasts about his strength and size, but Buddy questions whether being a big predator is the only thing that matters. Terry invites Buddy to join him on a hunt, but the young T. Rex soon realizes that being a predator is not as easy as it looks. Buddy helps Terry appreciate the other skills and adaptations that dinosaurs have, such as the ability to fly or camouflage themselves.
In the second half of the episode, "Ned The Quadruped," the Pteranodon family meets a friend named Ned, who is a quadruped dinosaur. Ned proudly shows off his unique ability to use all four of his limbs for walking, which sets him apart from the bipedal dinosaurs that the Pteranodons have encountered so far. However, Ned struggles to keep up with the Pteranodon family when they fly, and he feels left out. The Pteranodons help Ned discover that there are advantages to both types of locomotion, and they all enjoy playing together in the end.
Through the adventures of Buddy and his dinosaur friends, "I'm a T. Rex! / Ned The Quadruped" explores different dinosaur species and their unique adaptations. The episode also emphasizes the importance of appreciating and valuing diversity in all its forms, as the characters learn that different abilities and characteristics can be equally valuable.
