Ep 13. Ten Gallon Trophy, The/ Plane Crazy
- March 22, 2021
The episode Ten Gallon Trophy/Plane Crazy is the thirteenth installment of the first season of the popular children's television show Dino Ranch. In this episode, the young Pteranodon mate, Falda, gets ambitious and asks Trey, a Triceratops rancher, to teach her how to ride a bull. Trey is taken aback initially, as he has never trained a Pteranodon before and cannot fathom the challenge of training Falda, who's much smaller in size compared to the other dinos. Nevertheless, he accepts the challenge but has seconds thoughts as he believes that Falda could get seriously injured if the bull tosses her off and stampedes on her.
Meanwhile, Wally and Franco get into another argument when Wally finally gets his hands on a new invention, a hovercraft. However, Franco is skeptical about Wally's DIY invention, and Wally's excitement is short-lived. Their fight escalates and ends with Wally taking off in his hovercraft, excited for his new toy. He takes along the youngest siblings of the group, Joni and Santiago, for a ride. Things go awry when Wally loses control of the craft during the flight, and they're forced to make an emergency landing in an unfamiliar part of the ranch.
Back at the ranch, Trey, Falda, and Jane, along with their young trainees, do their best to practice bull-riding. However, Falda struggles to keep up with the bull's movements and gets constantly tossed off. Jane suggests that Falda should try riding an easier bull, but Falda insists that she wants to ride the toughest one. Determined to prove herself, Falda tries once again but ends up getting thrown off, landing in the mud, and breaking her wing. Trey is remorseful and blames himself for Falda's injury but vows to make it better.
Wally, Joni, and Santiago, on the other hand, discover an old abandoned airfield, complete with a run-down old bi-plane. Wally's excitement is renewed as he's always wanted to fly a plane, and now he's sure he can fix the old one. Despite Joni and Santiago's frightened protests, Wally sets to work rebuilding the bi-plane.
Trey, feeling guilty about Falda, seeks the help of Dr. Julie, the local veterinarian. Together, they work hand in hand to come up with a solution for Falda's injured wing. After an overnight rest in the barn, Falda wakes up the next day to find herself with a makeshift cast on her wing and feeling much better.
Meanwhile, Wally is successful in fixing up the old bi-plane. He takes off for the first time, and Joni and Santiago watch in awe as they take to the skies. However, things take a turn for the worse when Wally realizes he doesn't have enough fuel to make it back to the ranch. The plane makes a crash landing, and they're forced to wait for rescue.
Trey and Jane, on a mission to find the missing kids, come across the crashed plane and rescue the stranded trio. Together they make their way back home to the ranch, where Falda waits excitedly for them.
The episode ends with Wally feeling remorseful for his reckless behavior and once again apologizing to Franco. Trey, Jane, and the kids bond over hot chocolate in front of the fireplace, and Falda makes a promise to Trey to stay away from bull riding in the future. The episode wraps up with a beautiful Pteranodon sunset and the promise of more exciting adventures at the Dino Ranch.
