In the third episode of Dino Dana season 1, titled "All In The Dino Family / Snakes and Dinosaurs", Dana discovers that her own family tree has some prehistoric branches! She learns that her great-grandmother was a paleontologist who studied dinosaurs and she feels proud of her family's connection to these ancient creatures.
Dana's excitement about her ancestry is short-lived, however, as she is forced to confront her fear of snakes when she encounters a live rattlesnake in her backyard. Despite being terrified, Dana decides to face her fear head-on and learns that snakes and dinosaurs actually have a lot in common. Both are related to lizards and their ancestors date back to the same time period millions of years ago.
Dana's curiosity about the connection between snakes and dinosaurs leads her to a nearby reptile exhibit where she learns more about the evolution of reptiles, including how some dinosaurs evolved into birds. She also discovers that modern-day reptiles, like snakes, have unique adaptations that help them survive in their environments, just like dinosaurs did.
While exploring the exhibit, Dana meets a young boy named Mateo who is also interested in snakes. Together, they learn about different species of snakes and Dana even helps Mateo overcome his own fear of handling a python.
Back at home, Dana's younger sister Saara is upset that she can't be involved in Dana's dino adventures, but Dana finds a way to include her. She shares some fun dino facts with Saara and together they make a family tree that includes all their prehistoric ancestors.
