Dino Dana is a show designed to encourage kids to learn about dinosaurs and the world they lived in. In season one, episode twelve, titled "Face Your Fearosaurus / Herd it Loud and Clear", Dana is learning about two very different types of dinosaurs.
The first part of the episode, "Face Your Fearosaurus", sees Dana trying to overcome her fear of Velociraptors. She's been invited to a sleepover at a dinosaur museum with her friend Saara, but when the girls spot a bunch of 'raptors on display, Dana completely freaks out. She can't bear to be near them, let alone sleep in the same room as them.
When Dana's big sister Saúl tells her that the best way to conquer a fear is to face it head on, Dana takes the advice to heart. She decides to spend the night in the Velociraptor exhibit area to try and get over her phobia.
At first, Dana is incredibly tense and jumpy. Every time she hears a noise, she assumes it's one of the 'raptors coming to get her. But slowly, she begins to calm down and take stock of her surroundings. As she studies the exhibit, she realizes that most of what she's scared of is based on inaccurate depictions of Velociraptors in movies and TV shows. In reality, these animals were smaller and less terrifying.
By the end of the episode, Dana is proud of herself for facing her fear and coming out the other side. She even feels confident enough to give a little lecture on Velociraptors to some of the other sleepover guests.
The second half of the episode, "Herd it Loud and Clear", is a complete change of pace. Dana is tasked with learning about a completely different type of dinosaur: the Triceratops.
Dana is fascinated by Triceratops because they lived in her hometown of Edmonton, Canada during prehistoric times. She wants to know everything there is to know about them, but her research keeps hitting a roadblock.
One of the most interesting things about Triceratops is that they probably traveled in large herds, but nobody knows exactly how they communicated with each other. That's where Dana's friend Mr. Hendrickson comes in. He's a retired engineer who used to work on radio towers, and he thinks he might be able to help Dana crack the Triceratops communication code.
Together, Dana and Mr. Hendrickson set up an experiment to see if they can mimic Triceratops sounds using radio equipment. It's a challenging task, but they eventually succeed, and in the process they learn a lot about how these animals might have talked to each other.
In the end, Dana has a newfound appreciation for both Velociraptors and Triceratops. With her fear conquered and her curiosity piqued, she's ready to tackle any new challenge that comes her way.
