Diggstown is a legal drama series created by Floyd Kane and produced by eOne that made its debut on BET+ streaming platform on March 4th, 2021. The show tells the story of Marcie Diggs (Vinessa Antoine), a corporate lawyer who abruptly quits her comfortable job to pursue her true passion of serving underprivileged clients at a legal aid clinic in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Marcie Diggs struggles with a shattered personal life, manages her complex relationships, and faces challenges at work while navigating the justice system.

Vinessa Antoine delivers a stellar performance in the show, portraying Marcie as a complex character with deep-seated issues stemming from her past, including her brother's death and unresolved issues with her mother. Marcie's tenacious dedication to serving her community is admirable and inspiring, but it also leads her into compromising situations that challenge her personal and professional standards. Despite the layers of complexities, Marcie's character is endearing and relatable, making her a worthy protagonist for the show.

Natasha Henstridge portrays Colleen MacDonnell, a successful lawyer and Marcie's former law school classmate-turned-nemesis. Colleen is a ruthless corporate lawyer who is also Marcie's former mentor and friend, and as the show progresses, Marcie and Colleen's relationship becomes more and more complicated. Colleen's character veers between villain and ally, adding depth and texture to the narrative.

The supporting cast of Diggstown is equally remarkable, with standout performances from Brandon Oakes, who plays Doug Paul, a forensic accountant who becomes Marcie's love interest, Stacey Farber, who portrays Pam MacLean, a passionate legal aid lawyer, and C. David Johnson, the eccentric and lovable Judge Nicodemo Scarpelli.

Diggstown is set against the backdrop of the Nova Scotia justice system, and the show offers a fascinating glimpse into the inner workings of the Canadian legal system. The series draws attention to inequalities and disparities within the justice system, highlighting the struggles faced by marginalized and low-income individuals who are frequently overlooked or underserved.

The show's creators have done an excellent job of balancing the legal drama with a compelling personal story that is grounded in a rich cultural and historical context. Diggstown delves into Marcie's Black and Indigenous heritage, tackling issues of systemic racism, identity, and representation. The show also explores the complexities of relationships, including family dynamics, friendships, and romantic entanglements, adding a layer of emotional depth to the narrative.

What sets Diggstown apart from other legal dramas is its focus on community, compassion, and social justice. The show manages to tackle complex social issues while also delivering a compelling legal drama, leaving the audience emotionally invested in the lives of its characters. Diggstown is a show that is timely, relevant, and compelling, and it deserves a spot on the list of must-watch TV shows.
