Ep 4. Alimony

Dice season 1 episode 4, titled "Alimony", follows Andrew Dice Clay, a successful comedian who has fallen on hard times financially, as he tries to negotiate a deal with his ex-wife Franchesca (played by Rita Rudner) to reduce his alimony payments. Despite being known for his vulgar and crass humor, Dice shows a vulnerable side as he struggles to keep up with his payments and maintain his lavish lifestyle.

As the episode begins, Dice is presented with a bill for $75,000 for back alimony payments. Determined to resolve the issue, Dice later meets with Franchesca at a lawyer's office. Franchesca comes prepared with a counteroffer, which Dice finds insulting and unfair. The two argue back and forth, with Dice insisting that he can't afford to pay the full amount and Franchesca accusing him of not caring about his responsibilities.

Throughout the episode, Dice is also dealing with other financial issues. He's behind on his rent and is worried that he won't be able to afford his daughter's private school tuition. His manager, Milkshake (played by Natasha Leggero), suggests that he work at a casino gig to make some extra cash. Dice is hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to do the gig.

As the episode comes to a close, Dice receives a surprise visit from Franchesca, who apologizes for her behavior and agrees to reduce his payments. Dice is relieved and grateful, but still worried about how he's going to make ends meet. He puts on a brave face and heads to the casino, where he performs for a less-than-enthusiastic crowd. Despite the lackluster response, Dice manages to earn enough money to cover his bills and keep his head above water for another day.

"Alimony" is a poignant episode that showcases Dice's struggles as a divorced father trying to provide for his family while also maintaining his career. It highlights the financial difficulties that many divorced men face and the emotional toll that alimony payments can take on them. Dice's vulnerability and humanity are on full display in this episode, making it a standout of the first season.
