Ep 7. Easy As Pie

In Dexter season 3 episode 7, titled "Easy As Pie," our beloved serial killer is balancing multiple lies and plots all at once.

As a forensics expert, Dexter Morgan has always had a knack for being detail-oriented and organized, but in this episode, he is truly juggling a lot. On the one hand, he has his relationship with Rita, his girlfriend and mother of his child. He's been hiding the fact that he killed her ex-husband, Paul, in the previous season, and now finds himself lying to Rita about his whereabouts several times a week under the guise of attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings. On top of that, he's still maintaining his secret life as a serial killer, complete with his "Dark Passenger" constantly urging him to satisfy his desires while also trying to protect the innocent and apprehend the guilty.

As if that wasn't enough, we learn in this episode that Dexter also has a new target: Miguel Prado, his friend and a rising star in Miami's District Attorney's office. Prado has become increasingly obsessed with the case they worked on together in an earlier episode, and is pressuring Dexter to help him take down suspected drug lord, Freebo. Dexter knows that Freebo is actually innocent, but he can't exactly tell Prado that he's one of the few people in the world who actually knows that. This puts Dexter in a precarious position, as he tries to steer Prado away from the case without arousing his suspicions.

To complicate matters even further, Dexter's sister, Debra, is in the hospital after getting shot by one of Freebo's associates in the previous episode. While she is recovering in the hospital, Dexter tries to be there for her as a brother while also keeping his true feelings hidden. He's always felt a certain amount of protectiveness over her, as she's the only member of his family who truly knows him, but he can't show that without arousing suspicion.

As the episode unfolds, Dexter must navigate these various plots and maintain his cover, all while trying to track down and kill the next person on his list. At the same time, he begins to suspect that his cover may be blown when someone starts following him around. Is it Prado, who has grown suspicious of Dexter's behavior? Is it a cop investigating Debra's shooting? Or is it someone else entirely?

Overall, "Easy As Pie" is a tense and suspenseful episode of Dexter that showcases the show's ability to balance multiple plotlines and character arcs without sacrificing momentum. We see Dexter struggling to maintain his various personas and keep his secrets hidden, all while dealing with the fallout of the previous episode's events. The stakes are high, and as always, the question of whether or not Dexter will get caught looms large. Will he be able to maintain his façade long enough to carry out his plan, or will his luck run out? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: this season of Dexter is not for the faint of heart.
