In Dexter season 3 episode 12, "Do You Take Dexter Morgan?", the wedding bells are ringing as Dexter prepares to marry his fiancée, Rita. However, Dexter's past continues to haunt him as Miguel Prado presses him to kill his own brother, Ramon. Meanwhile, Sergeant Doakes continues to investigate Dexter and becomes more convinced that he is hiding something.
The episode opens with Dexter nervously waiting for Rita to walk down the aisle. His thoughts are interrupted by Miguel, who reminds him that he still needs to take care of Ramon. Dexter tries to brush him off, but Miguel's persistence is unnerving.
As the wedding ceremony proceeds, Dexter's sister, Debra, gives a heartfelt speech about how much Rita means to their family. But Dexter's mind is elsewhere, as he can't stop thinking about Ramon and how he's going to dispose of the body.
After the wedding, Dexter and Rita go on their honeymoon to Paris. However, even in the City of Love, Dexter can't escape his demons. He's constantly worried about Miguel and his own safety. Dexter's mood is further dampened when Rita reveals that she's pregnant.
Back in Miami, Doakes is still following Dexter, convinced that he's hiding something. He's even created a timeline of all the murders that have occurred since Dexter moved to Miami. Doakes confronts Dexter at home, but Dexter is able to smooth things over by telling Doakes that he was in Narcotics Anonymous meetings during the times he was supposedly committing murder.
Meanwhile, Miguel's obsession with Dexter intensifies. He pressures Dexter to kill Ramon, even going so far as to provide him with evidence that Ramon is a drug dealer. Dexter initially resists, but then decides to go through with it to avoid having Miguel investigate his own murders.
Dexter and Miguel lure Ramon to a secluded location, where Dexter kills him with a tranquilizer. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when Miguel reveals that he wants to take credit for the kill and use it as leverage in his bid for District Attorney. Dexter is horrified by Miguel's narcissism and lack of conscience.
The episode concludes with Dexter returning home to find a package on his doorstep. Inside, he finds a doll that bears a striking resemblance to himself. Next to it is a message from Doakes that simply reads, "I know". Dexter is left to wonder what Doakes has discovered and how he will be able to keep his secret safe.
Overall, "Do You Take Dexter Morgan?" is a tense and gripping episode that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The wedding and honeymoon provide a brief respite from the darkness that surrounds Dexter, but ultimately he is unable to escape his past and the people who want to drag him down.
