"You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" is the first episode of the fifth season of Desperate Housewives, and it begins with a five-year flash-forward showing that things have drastically changed in the lives of the women of Wisteria Lane.
We begin the episode with the women all gathered at Gaby's house for a party as she tries to sell her excess items due to a hard financial year. We quickly see that things are not the same as they used to be. Susan is no longer living on the lane and Lynette is struggling with managing her business along with her teenage sons. Meanwhile, Bree is focusing on her catering business, and Gaby is trying to overcome the financial strain of her family's new status.
We quickly find out that things are not well in the future, with ominous hints to a secret and dark event that will shock the four women. The reasons for the future events remain a mystery, and the suspense builds as we are left to wonder what they are about.
In the present, we see that after being shot and left for dead, Katherine has left town, and Mike is once again single. Susan, one of the housewives who we see little of in this episode, is living in an apartment, having sold her house and wanting to move on from Wisteria Lane.
The main focus of the episode is on Lynette and her family, with her struggling to juggle work, her kids, and a difficult personal life. Lynette's kids, twins Porter and Preston, have started a pizza business that's taking up a lot of their time and is therefore fazing out their school work. To make things worse, Lynette is experiencing trouble with her marriage. The real estate business run by Tom hasn't been doing well, and her family is now in debt. Lynette is keeping her feelings about the business venture and her husband's professions hidden from her friends, choosing instead to confide in her brother-in-law.
Meanwhile, Bree is left reeling after her daughter, Danielle, leaves home to start fresh in New York City, leaving her mother feeling lost and alone. Gaby, on the other hand, is facing similar difficulties with her 17-year-old daughter, Juanita, who has started stealing from her classmates. Gaby struggles with disciplining her daughter while also attempting to fix their family's finances.
Ultimately, this episode shows that even with the passage of time, drastic changes, and new surprises, one thing remains constant: the housewives of Wisteria Lane know how to stick together through thick and thin.
