In Designing Women season 6 episode 14, titled "Driving My Mama Back Home," the ladies are gearing up for a road trip to bring Suzanne's mother, Mrs. Sugarbaker, back home to Georgia. Suzanne is dreading the drive with her mother, who is known for her critical comments and demanding behavior.
As they prepare to leave, Julia is dealing with some personal issues of her own, including a broken ankle that has left her immobile. She is left with the task of completing the design project they are working on, while the others head out of town.
On the road trip, tensions rise as Mrs. Sugarbaker complains about everything from the car to the accommodations. Things only get worse when they discover that the hotel they had booked is less than desirable, complete with dirty sheets and questionable guests.
To make matters worse, Suzanne's ex-husband shows up and tries to convince her to give their relationship another chance. This leads to a heated argument, with the other ladies watching from the sidelines.
Despite all of the drama, the ladies manage to make it to Georgia with Mrs. Sugarbaker in tow. Along the way, they learn more about each other and strengthen their bond as friends.
Back in Atlanta, Julia is dealing with her own set of challenges as she struggles to complete the design project while also dealing with her injury. With the help of her friends, she manages to pull it off and impress their clients.
In the end, the ladies reunite at the office and reflect on their journey. They may not have had the easiest time on the road, but they are more grateful than ever for their friendship and the love they share for each other.
