The Bachelor Auction is the fifth episode of the fifth season of the popular television show, Designing Women. The episode features the ladies of Sugarbaker and Associates hosting a non-profit bachelor auction in order to assist a local charity.
The ladies are tasked with finding eligible bachelors to participate in the auction, which proves to be more difficult than they originally thought. After some hesitation, the men of Atlanta eventually commit to the cause and the auction is set to take place.
The day of the auction arrives and the ladies are thrilled to see a packed house. The men, each with a unique talent or gift to share, take the stage one by one as the bidding begins. Plenty of laughs are had throughout the night as the bachelors show off their skills, but there is one bachelor who catches everyone's eye.
His name is Wesley, a handsome young man with a kind heart and a love for poetry. He is not your typical bachelor and catches the attention of Julia Sugarbaker, played by Dixie Carter. Julia is highly regarded in her field, but her love life has not been as successful. She is intrigued by Wesley and the two begin to spend time together.
Julia is faced with the decision to bid on Wesley but is hesitant to throw her name in the ring. She is worried about what the other ladies will think and is unsure of how Wesley feels about her. Nevertheless, she decides to take a chance and puts in a bid for him.
As the auction comes to a close, it is revealed that Wesley has a secret. He is actually the son of a prominent Atlanta businessman and has been living a life of luxury. He participated in the auction to show his support for the charity, but not because he was really looking for love.
Upon hearing this news, Julia is less than pleased. She feels tricked and starts to distance herself from Wesley. However, she soon realizes that she may have been too quick to judge and decides to give him another chance.
The episode ends with Wesley and Julia spending time together, laughing and enjoying each other's company. While it is not clear whether or not they will end up together, the two seem to have formed a special bond.
Overall, The Bachelor Auction is a heartwarming episode full of humor and love. The ladies of Sugarbaker and Associates showcase their generosity and compassion for others, and in doing so, prove that even the most unlikely of bachelors can find love.
