Ep 5. The Girlfriend

The episode opens with Julia and Mary Jo discussing their respective love lives at the Sugarbaker & Associates office. Julia has recently reconnected with her ex-husband, Reese, and Mary Jo is casually dating a man named Dwight, who works at the local hospital. As they talk, they are interrupted by the arrival of Wilson, a former employee of the firm who has fallen on hard times and is now homeless. Despite their reservations, the women agree to let Wilson stay with them temporarily.

Meanwhile, Suzanne is excitedly preparing for the arrival of her newest boyfriend, a wealthy businessman named Hal. She has spent countless hours redecorating her bedroom and dressing herself in expensive outfits, all in the hopes of impressing Hal and securing a long-term relationship. However, when Hal arrives, Suzanne quickly realizes that he is more interested in her money than her personality.

As Wilson begins to settle into his new living arrangements, the women start to notice that he is developing an intense friendship with Charlene, the office secretary. While they are initially pleased to see Wilson finding companionship, Julia and Mary Jo become concerned when they realize that Wilson might be taking advantage of Charlene's kind nature. They begin to investigate his past and discover that he has a history of manipulating vulnerable women.

Meanwhile, Suzanne is struggling to come to terms with the fact that Hal is only using her for her wealth. She confides in Julia, who urges her to end the relationship and focus on finding someone who values her for who she is, not what she has. After some soul-searching, Suzanne finally decides to break up with Hal and focus on rebuilding her self-confidence.
