The episode "Nightmare from Hee Haw" is part of the fourth season of the sitcom Designing Women. The show revolves around an Atlanta-based interior design firm, comprised of four women: Julia Sugarbaker, her sister Suzanne, Mary Jo Shively, and Charlene Frazier.
In this episode, the team is tasked with decorating the home of a wealthy couple from Knoxville. However, the project quickly becomes complicated when the clients' daughter, a former beauty queen turned country singer, arrives unexpectedly. The daughter, named Krystle, is not at all what the team had expected and she quickly disrupts their plans.
Krystle is portrayed as a stereotypical "southern belle" type, complete with a thick Southern accent and a love for country music. She insists on being called "Krystle with a K," and is constantly surrounded by a group of rowdy men who also happen to be her bandmates.
Despite Krystle's constant interruptions, the team manages to make some headway on the project. However, things take a turn for the worse when they discover the couple's strange decorating requests.
It turns out that the couple is deeply superstitious and wants their home to include numerous pieces of "lucky" decor to ward off evil spirits. This includes things like horseshoes, rabbit feet, and even a pair of mounted deer antlers.
The team is initially skeptical of these requests, but decides to go along with it in order to please the clients. However, when Krystle accidentally breaks one of the lucky horseshoes, the couple becomes convinced that their home is now cursed.
The rest of the episode revolves around the team trying to appease the couple's superstitions while also trying to reign in Krystle and her rowdy bandmates. There are several comedic moments throughout, including a scene in which Krystle sings a raunchy country song about Julia.
Ultimately, the team is able to complete the project and even win over Krystle, who admits that she was initially wary of working with a group of "fancy city women." The episode ends with the team celebrating their successful project, though they express relief at never having to work with such superstitious clients again.
Overall, "Nightmare from Hee Haw" is a light-hearted episode that showcases the team's ability to work together despite unexpected challenges. It also highlights some of the cultural differences between the team's Atlanta-based lifestyle and Krystle's rural Tennessee roots. The episode provides plenty of laughs and is a good example of the show's mix of humor and heart.
