In Designing Women season 2 episode 3 titled "Anthony, Jr.", the ladies of Sugarbaker & Associates are surprised when they find Anthony Bouvier's 12-year-old son, Anthony Jr., waiting for them at work. Anthony had forgotten that he had promised to take his son on a fishing trip, and with no one else to look after him, he brings him to the office for the day.
At first, the ladies are hesitant about having a child in the office, but they quickly warm up to Anthony Jr. and decide to show him the ropes of the interior design business. Suzanne takes him under her wing and teaches him about fashion and glamour, while Mary Jo shows him how to draft designs and work on the computer. Julia even takes him to a client meeting and lets him sit in on the presentation.
However, tensions rise when they discover that Anthony's ex-wife, Etienne, has filed for full custody of Anthony Jr. and is intent on moving him to Paris. This news devastates Anthony, and he confides in the ladies that he's worried he'll never be able to see his son again.
The ladies decide to take action and help Anthony fight for custody of his son. They put their design skills to the test and create a beautiful, kid-friendly bedroom for Anthony Jr. to live in, in hopes that it will impress the judge. They also offer emotional support to Anthony and stand by his side during the difficult court proceedings.
Meanwhile, Julia has her own personal crisis to deal with when she finds out that her ex-husband, Reese, is getting remarried. She tries to put on a brave face and act like she doesn't care, but her emotions get the best of her when she sees pictures of Reese and his new fiancée in the newspaper. The ladies rally around Julia and offer words of encouragement, reminding her that she's a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man to be fulfilled.
In the end, Anthony wins custody of his son, thanks in part to the ladies' efforts and the impressive bedroom they designed. Everyone is overjoyed, and Anthony Jr. goes back to school with stories to tell about is exciting day at the Sugarbaker office. Julia also comes to terms with Reese's remarriage and realizes that she's happy just being herself.
"Anthony, Jr." is a heartwarming episode that showcases the power of strong female friendships. The ladies of Sugarbaker & Associates go above and beyond to help Anthony and his son, and in doing so, they prove that family isn't just about blood, it's about the people who love and support you.
