Designing Women season 1 episode 8, titled "I Do, I Don't," follows the Sugarbaker team as they're hired to plan a wedding held at the mansion of a wealthy Atlanta family. However, after a few unexpected cancellations from vendors, the team struggles to pull off the extravagant event on short notice.
The episode kicks off with the Sugarbaker women discussing plans for an upcoming wedding. Julia, the head of the company, boasts about their reputation for throwing the most lavish events in all of Atlanta. However, their confidence is quickly shaken when they receive a call from their bride-to-be canceling the rental of her wedding dress.
Julia and her assistant Suzanne rush to find a replacement dress while the rest of the team scrambles to find a new florist and caterer. Their troubles continue to mount when the groom's family shows up to the mansion to inform them that their original venue is no longer an option.
Despite the obstacles, the team frantically tries to piece together everything for the big day. Anthony, a former felon-turned-carpenter, steps in to help build makeshift flower displays while Julia and Mary Jo begin preparing food in the kitchen. Suzanne, on the other hand, attempts to fabricate a wedding dress out of a white bedspread.
As the wedding guests begin to arrive, chaos ensues. The makeshift flower displays topple over, the cake is destroyed, and the dress Suzanne made falls apart. However, the team pulls together and manages to save the day by quickly rearranging the event space, repairing the dress, and offering the guests a new cake truly befitting a lavish southern wedding.
