Departures is an exhilarating travel documentary series that follows two best friends, Scott Wilson and Justin Lukach, as they embark on a life-changing adventure around the world. In the tenth episode of season one, titled "New Zealand: Adrenaline," the duo arrive in one of the world's most scenic and thrill-seeking countries: New Zealand.
From the bustling city of Auckland to the rugged outdoors of Queenstown, Scott and Justin explore the adrenaline-fueled activities that New Zealand has to offer. The episode begins with the duo skydiving over the stunning Bay of Islands, one of the many beautiful natural wonders of New Zealand. Their experience is captured through stunning aerial shots, showcasing the sheer beauty of the country's landscapes.
Continuing on their adrenaline-fueled journey, the duo take on the white-knuckle ride on the AJ Hackett Bungy jump, the world's first commercial bungy jump. As they plunge headfirst into the scenic Shotover River, the two friends scream and laugh in sheer joy.
Next up is a visit to the Ogo Rotorua, where Scott and Justin experience the Kiwi invention of the Ogo ball - a giant inflatable ball with two passengers inside, rolling down a hill. The friends exclaim in excitement, as they bounce around and roll down the picturesque hills of New Zealand, trying their best to balance themselves within the confines of the inflatable ball.
In Queenstown, known as the "adventure capital of the world," the duo get their dose of speed with Skyline Luge, a thrilling ride where riders race down a hill on small luge carts, pushing the limits of speed and control. Afterwards, they hit the trails and explore the beautiful scenery with a mountain biking tour, cruising through the beautiful landscapes and getting some exercise in the process.
Throughout their journey, Scott and Justin immerse themselves in the local culture, trying out the traditional Maori dance and attending a Powhiri - a formal ceremony of welcome that involves an exchange of speeches, songs and other customs. They also explore the unique geothermal wonders of New Zealand, such as the geysers and hot springs, while learning about the history and culture of the country.
The episode wraps up with a party at the famous Queenstown Winter Festival - a celebration of the winter season with festivities that include live music, street parties and fireworks. Scott and Justin let loose and relish in the festive atmosphere, soaking up the energy and joy of the event.
"New Zealand: Adrenaline" is a perfect mix of adventure, nature and culture, showcased through the eyes of two best friends on an epic journey.
