At the court hall, Longji and Taiping are at daggers drawn, in the nick of time, Wang Zhen rushes there, bringing alone evidence against Taiping, who seeks to usurp the throne. Things have drawn to an end, following which Longji goes to have a word with Wang Zhen, fulfilling Sanshu's wishes.

Yuyan learns from the Imperial Physician that Li Dan has becomes very moody, indicating stagnation in the hepatobiliary system, so she delivers medicinal congee for him. However, Li Dan refuses to take it and even flies into a rage. Meeting up with Yuyan alone, Taiping suspects that Li Dan suffers from mercury poisoning and she abruptly accuses Yuyan of poisoning.

Biyun feels resentful after being accused by Xiangsi of having a connection with Able Consort's death, so she counter-accuses Xiangsi and Keqian of licentious behavior that goes against the rule of the inner palace. With Qiongxiang and the others as witnesses, Xiangsi and Keqian have no way to prove otherwise.

On her way to visit Cunxi, Wang Zhen runs into Sanshu, who tries to persuade her by using the Zilan Bath saga. Three good friends, Ruoqian, Yuan Yue and Cunxi, once again gather together, during which Yuan Yue expresses that she is going to arrange some pastries for Sanshu and Ruoqian's get-together at Linglong Court.

Ruoqian admits that she schemed to frame Sanshu and Cunxi. Though Longji plans to treat her leniently, Taiping is strongly opposed the idea and wants to execute Ruoqian. Eventually, Longji sentences her to caning punishment. Knowing that Ruoqian won't survive the punishment, Sanshu kneels down in front of the palace gate, begging Longji to suspend the sentence.

Just as Taiping is about to teach Cunxi a lesson, in the nick of time, Longji braves out to protect her. Nangong Qin receives a letter from Cheng Gong, informing her that he has arrived safely. She believes that she will meet Cheng Gong again in the future.

Cheng Gong is exiled upon his conviction, so Qiongxiang tries to convince Nangong Qin to bid farewell to him. Just as Cheng Gong is expecting Nangong Qin, to his surprise, the one who comes turns out to be Yuan Yue. Cunxi goes to visit Taiping, and Taiping points out that Cunxi was the target of an arson.

Cunxi is injured so Wang Zhen takes the blame for it. But, Longji braves it out to defend Wang Zhen, and even orders the Longwu Army to thoroughly probe into the matter and find the culprit.

Though Wang Min decides to stay in the palace, Qiongxiang indicates that it's the Empress's decree. Cunxi seeks aid from Taiping, expressing that she does not want to let Wang Min go, to which Taiping not only agrees to plead with Li Dan on behalf of her, but also seizes the opportunity to teach Cunxi that only through keeping a grip on power can she do whatever she wants.

In order to confirm He Li's real identity, Qiongxiang checks his background. Sanshu runs into Cunxi in the palace. Seeing her seem to be preoccupied, he encourages her and tells her to put faith in Longji.

Longji bids farewell to everybody, prior to which he hands a sachet containing advisory notes to Sanshu and He Li, adding that it will help them solve problems. Prince Ashina will soon arrive. Sanshu, He Li and the others plan to put on a show of an attempted assassination and rescue of Ashina, without knowing that the prince does run into the real assassin.

After Yuan YUE is instated as Princess Linglong, Ruoqian is sent by the Imperial Household Bureau to serve her. Yuan Yue extends her thanks to Nangong Qin and Cheng Gong, and then goes together with Ruoqian to visit the Longwu Army, creating an opportunity for Ruoqian to spend time alone with Sanshu.

Sanshu re-encounters Cunxi in the palace, so they catch up with each other. Cunxi tries to send some pastries to Longji but gets the cold shoulder from him. Cunxi's maid Shui-Xian suddenly attacks Able Consort but is stopped by Yuan Yue.

Cunxi offers a gold tree as congratulations to Longji on his ascension to the throne, successfully winning favor from Li Dan and the others. Just as Wang Zhen and the Imperial Household Bureau are preparing the investiture ceremony for Cunxi, suddenly, Taiping arrives at the Imperial Household Bureau in person.

With Yuan Yue depressed over things regarding Yin Rou, He Li not only appears to be very attentive but also shares his own story with her. Governor of Huazhou, Cui Shi, out of the blue pledges allegiance to Taiping, offering her an extravagant gift to help fulfill her goal.

Wang Zhen eventually uncovers the conspiracy and helps clear Longji's name. Upon his return, Longji is very grateful for what Wang Zhen has done for him.

Longji is suspected of poisoning Taiping, so Chengqi, Sanshu and He Li make every effort to help him. Wang Zhen is also determined to help clear his name. Due to their involvement in preparing the banquet, everyone from the Imperial Household Bureau finds herself in danger.

Arranged by Yuan Yue, Longji and Wang Zhen are finally open and honest with each other. Later, Longji specifically goes to the headquarters of Longwu Army to praise Sanshu and He Li for their effort in solving the palace homicide. Longji, Sanshu and He Li drink to their heart's content to celebrate, without knowing that something happens to Wang Zhen that same night.

With Wang Zhen falling into the clutches of the criminal, Yuan Yue risks her own life to protect her. Ruoqian tries her best to please Sanshu but to no avail.

After Biyun and Xiangsi are attacked, Sanshu and He Li go specifically to the Imperial Household Bureau to investigate. Yuan Yue brings pastries awarded by Wang Zhen to visit Ruoqian and other female scribes, making them green with envy.

Taiping pleas for the Emperor's approval of allowing her to leave the palace, to which Li Dan decrees his approval. Longji swears to the floating lantern that Wang Zhen will be his one and only Empress if he accedes to the throne.

Longji, He Li and Sanshu join forces to fight off the assassin, following which they suspect it's an inside job that someone from the imperial palace is behind the whole saga. Upon Longji and Wang Zhen's return to the palace, Taiping suspects that the assassin is one of Wei's rebel remnants, but Longji claims that he has had someone probe into the matter.

Facing Taiping's accusation, the suspect has no way to deny it, fortunately, quick-witted Longji manages to help the suspect out of trouble. Ruoqian secretly goes to visit Yuan Yue, who was taken away by Taiping. Shocked to see Yuan Yue suffer torture, Ruoqian has no other choice but to seek aid from Wang Zhen.

Taiping goes to visit the person who took the blame for her in jail but gets a cold shoulder. Li Dan goes to visit Taiping, noticing she looks very frail. He Li tries to convince Yuan Yue to leave the palace; whereas Yuan Yue claims that she will not leave unless she finds her elder sister's whereabouts.
